Enjoy Warm Apple Pie This Winter Without All The Work
Apple pie has gained a reputation for being tricky to master, but this recipe makes both the filling and crust quite easy to pull off correctly. Look for apples labeled for baking to ensure you get maximum flavor and good texture in the finished dish.
For the crust:
3 cups of all-purpose flour, sifted
2 teaspoons non-iodized salt
4 teaspoons of sugar
1 cup of vegetable oil, melted butter, melted shortening, melted lard, or a combination
4 tablespoons milk
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl with a whisk, then fold in the wet ingredients. Keep folding and mixing until the dough comes into a ball and there is no dry flour. Halve the dough, pressing one ball into the pan as the base and rolling out the second for a flat or latticed top.
For the filling:
Three pounds of baking apples
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4th cup granulated sugar
1/4th cup brown sugar
1/4th cup confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of apple pie spice
1 tablespoon of butter, diced
Blend together all ingredients in a bowl. Add to pie and cover, then bake at 375 degrees F for about 30 to 40 minutes.
